The Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA has several services to prevent the birth of unwanted animals and, in turn, reach its goal of zero euthanasia of adoptable/placeable animals in the local community.The worldwide campaign was first launched in 1995 by the Humane Society International, HSUS, and the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association as a way to bring attention to the problem of pet overpopulation, and to highlight a solution by spaying and neutering.“Sterilization is the most effective way to prevent overpopulation of cats and dogs,” says Steve McNall, President and CEO of the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA. “When you spay and neuter, you are potentially saving thousands of lives.”The Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA offers free spay and neuter surgeries for pit bulls and pit bull mixes, Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes (up to 15 pounds), as well as a Trap-Neuter-Release program for feral cats within its nine-city service area including Arcadia, Bradbury, Glendale, La Cañada Flintridge, Monrovia, Pasadena, San Marino, Sierra Madre and South Pasadena. Low-cost spay and neuter surgeries are available for all other dogs, cats and rabbits.
