first_imgGARDAI are tonight hunting sick arsonists behind a series of gorse fires across County Donegal.And fears are growing over more fires; one of them just five miles from Glenveagh National Park – the county’s biggest natural asset. Dozens of gorse, bog and forest fires have hit the county in the past 72 hours.Amongst the worst of those fires are near Ardara and Dungloe.As fire crews, Defence Force personnel and Air Corps chopper pilots have been working around the clock to contain the fires which are so widespread they can now be seen from space.Tonight one fire officer at the scene of the blaze near Ardara told donegaldaily: “What we really need now is for God to turn on his sprinkler system. We need rain and we need lots of it.” Forecasts vary from different TV channels. The BBC is predicting rain for Donegal this Thursday.
