GEORGE, Utah-Sunday, Dixie State baseball split a doubleheader with the Concordia-Portland Cavaliers at Bruce Hurst Field.Concordia-Portland took the first game 2-0, only to see the Traiblazers respond with a 10-4 win in the nightcap.Ryan Gibson earned the win on the mound for the Cavaliers in the first game, improving to 1-0 on the season. Dixie State only netted three hits in this game. The only offense came when left fielder/first baseman Matt Bergevin had an RBI sacrifice fly in the 3rd Inning.The Cavaliers’ other run came by virtue of a fielding error in the 5th Inning which saw centerfielder Jake Wikel score.The Trailblazers responded in the nightcap as Cade Spurlin and Tyler Hollow each homered. Third baseman Tyson Fisher and shortstop Alec Flemetakis had 2 RBI apiece for Dixie State to get the split.Tevita Gerber took the win on the mound for the Trailblazers, as he improved to 3-0 on the season for 11-3 Dixie State.The Trailblazers return to action March 6 as they commence their final Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season in school history by hosting Adams State.Dixie State faces the Grizzlies for a 4-game series, featuring a March 7 doubleheader.
