first_img 200-Pound Python Named ‘Ginormica’ Could Reach World-Record Size’Dragon Ball’ Wants to Set a Major Guinness World Record at SDCC 2019 I really enjoyed Captain Marvel. But I don’t know that I could enjoy it 116 times.Wisconsin chiropractor Steve Ruppel has unofficially broken a Guinness World Record by watching the Brie Larson-led superhero flick an eye-watering 116 times since its release last month. Not accounting for mid-movie naps, Ruppel sat through 14,268 minutes (or 237.8 hours) of the same movie over a span of six weeks.“The amount of time that it takes, I’ve had to take time off work,” he told local news station WSAW. “I would take long lunch breaks to accommodate watching an entire movie in that particular time frame. And then just time on the weekends where I’m not doing other things.”His personal best is seven showings in one day.To prevent boredom—a common symptom of watching the same two hours on repeat—Ruppel would focus on different background minutia, like a calendar.“It says June of 1995. And then later on in that particular day, there’s a full Moon. So at the end, I just Googled when there was a full Moon in June of 1995,” he explained. “And it came out to be Tuesday, June 13th of 1995.”Ruppel only needed to see the film 104 times to break the current record—set in February by Anthony “Nem” Mitchell, who watched another MCU staple, Avengers: Infinity War, a whopping 103 times. The two should get together for this week’s premiere of Avengers: Endgame.“I love superhero movies, and so this was a pretty good fit,” Ruppel said of Captain Marvel. “I knew it was going to be around for a while, and I thought it would probably be a good choice for this particular record.“Looking back on it now,” he continued, “I might almost consider a Disney movie, because they’re usually shorter and probably around for a while. But that singing would drive me crazy. It really would.”To earn the official Guinness World Record title, Ruppel must present certain proof, including photos in front of the movie poster, two written witness statements from each viewing, and ticket stubs.“If anyone wanted to break this, I really don’t want to re-break it,” he said in a statement to WSAW. “Cause this has been pretty tough. It’s been a finite amount of time, but I don’t think I’m going to try this one again.”Which means I just need to watch The Greatest Showman another 110 times…This isn’t Ruppel’s first Guinness rodeo: The doctor has already broken four records, including fastest time to drink one litre of gravy (*barf*) and running a half marathon wearing the most amount of T-shirts.More on Geek.com:This Life-Sized Captain Marvel Model is Built From 17,000 Lego Bricks‘Avengers: Endgame’ Cast Spoofs ‘We Didn’t Start the Fire’This Guy Officially Has the World’s Largest Video Game Collection11 Marvel Characters That Deserve Their Own Streaming Shows Stay on targetlast_img read more
