Police investigating burglary of guns from Brundidge hardware store

first_img Police investigating burglary of guns from Brundidge hardware store Plans underway for historic Pike County celebration There is speculation that the burglary could have occurred between 12:20  and 3:20 a.m. September 1, Davenport said. A power outage occurred shortly after midnight and the power was not restored until 3:20 a.m.“The burglary could have occurred during the power outage but that has not been established,” Davenport said. “It’s also possible the burglary could have occurred before or after those hours. The burglary was not discovered until around 7:30 a.m. on September 1 when an employee got to work and discovered a window in the back of the store had been broken.  Evidently, that is how the burglar or burglars gained entrance into the store.”Davenport said the ramshackle office was an indication that whoever burglarized the hardware was looking for more than firearms. Brundidge Police Chief Moses Davenport said the glass of the hardware’s gun case was broken and the guns taken were primarily handguns with the exception of a couple of long guns. The total estimated dollar value of the weapons is $20,000.The burglary occurred between the late hours on Friday, August 31 and 7:30 a.m. on September 1. “There were no cameras so we are depending on other evidence to solve this case,” Davenport said. “We have the serial numbers of the weapons and the Alabama Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) is working with us to solve this case. We are working on leads and the indication is that more than one person was involved because of the large number of weapons taken. Burglary is a felony and we are taking this case very seriously.”Anyone with any information about the burglary at Jackson Hardware in Brundidge about or on September 1 is asked to call the Brundidge Police Department at 334-735-3333.
